"Is MLM A Legitimate Business Model?" If you are considering starting a business and have been introduced to a Multi-Level Marketing you might have a pretty strong reaction. Most people love it or hate it. There are a lot of misconceptions about the fastest growing home business trend in the US and around the world. Its the fastest growing for a reason and accounts for trillions of dollars of goods and services sold throughout the world. Just like anything in life though there are positives and negatives and knowing what to look for can make all the difference. As you start your quest make sure you nderstand the business model, how to pick a legitimate company that will be right for you and to have the right expectations going in. So What Is Multi-Level Marketing or MLM? In the simplest terms its getting paid for recommending products or services that you yourself like and use and having others who want to do the same also be recommending them and getting paid bonuses on anyone who recommends them because of you. The misconceptions are that somehow Multi-Level Marketing is illegal. This really got challenged back in 1979 when a landmark case of the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and Amway. The FTC challenged Amway as an illegal pyramid scheme and after 4 years of litigation Amway won. The judge ruled in favor of Amway indicating that its Multi-Level Marketing program was a ligitimate business model. Today there are 100's of MLM companies that trade publicly as part of the stock exchange and have created legitimate business opportunity for millions of people. You don't have to run or cringe at the mention of Multi-Level Marketing but you should do your homework. Like any business you want to run there are lots of information resources available to you. If you go to the book store or out to Amazon.com there are some great books and even some trade magazines that you can look at to give you a better perspective. MLM is a viable business model that just might be for you. Don't be tempted with get rich quick emotion that leaves you picking a company that isn't right for you or worse leaves you thinking you don't have to really work.
